Christmas Drinks Guide
Christmas Guide
As well as curating a selection of ‘Christmas Wine cases’, which can be bought HERE. We also wanted to introduce you to a selection of YV’s favourite tipples that we think help bring Christmas Cheer throughout the festive period. Whether you’re celebrating with friends and family or getting cosy on the sofa in front of a Classic Christmas film, there’s always a perfect drink to match.
Fizz – Forget Champagne
Champagne is, of course, a classic choice for welcome drinks on the big day, but there’s so much more the world of sparkling wine has to offer! Whilst Champagne has requirements of being made in the Champagne region, that doesn’t stop wine regions around the world also producing sparkling wine the exact same way. Right here in England, Nyetimber, consistently triumphs in blind tastings against its Champagne counterparts, using only the finest Estate-grown fruit to craft its world-renowned wines. Another great alternative is Cremant du Jura, also from France, which makes an excellent (and affordable!) Kir Royale. Finally. and abit further a field, Jansz, Tasmania make wonderful Champagne Method Sparkling wines. Don’t be afraid to try something a little different this year, you might even prefer it!
And, for that extra special sparkling tipple add a generous dash of Cooper King Berry + Basil Gin Liqueur
Cooper King are a sustainable spirit brand based just north of York. They are responsible for producing England’s first carbon-negative gin from a self-built distillery powered by 100% green energy. The Berry and Basil liqueur is made using Yorkshire raspberries and fresh basil, grown on their own allotment, steeped in their award-winning Dry Gin for two months before being lightly sweetened.
Tasting notes: a rich and fruity gin liqueur, grounded with notes of basil and warming spice.
Aperitif – Things & Tonic
A Classic G&T is good, don’t get us wrong, but you can pair so many other ‘things’ with tonics. Below are just a few ideas and recipes for getting creative with ‘things’ and tonics. All available to purchase at Yorkshire Vintners.
After Dinner Drinks – Ward off that food coma
On Christmas Eve, why not treat Father Christmas to a 1995 Hermitage Cognac to have alongside his mince pie? Or, if Hard Liqueur isn’t your thing, then how about a super indulgent Cream Liqueur from Yorkshire’s finest Whisky producer. A great alternative to Baileys over ice, made with the finest Yorkshire Single malt whisky and spirit, gently married together with rich dairy cream. The guys at Spirit of Yorkshire have managed to create a wonderfully balanced and complex cream liqueur, capable of adding that Christmas finish to your evening.
