🍷🍷It’s that lovely time of year, to cuddle up in front of the fire and sup on a wonderfully warming glass of red.
Picking one is tricky, as we are spoilt for choice! So here are our top 5 bottles to choose from:
👉1. Toro de Piedra Gran Reserva 2016 Curico Valley, Chilli – Showing a deep garnet colour and intense notes of species, black fruit, berries, minty chocolate and a smooth touch of vanilla. In the mouth it is lush and silky, with a spicy character and a juicy palate that leaves a long finish. Perfectly paired with Roasted meats, such as beef and lamb.
👉2. Planella 2016 Joan d’Anguera, Spain – The nose is perfumed and subtle, and the palate is medium-bodied and very balanced, terrifically tasty, with a salty twist and very good length. Perfectly paired with lamb rump done anyway you fancy.
👉3. Chianti Collo Sensesi 2015 Bichi Borghesi, Italy – Bright brick red color. Aromas and flavors of wild cherries, roasted nuts and chestnuts, red licorice, cream, and potters clay plus oak with a vibrant, dry full body. Complex, medium-length finish with earthy, woody tannins and moderate oak flavour. A very good example. Perfectly paired with Grilled Pork Tenderloin, Beef Teriyaki, Steak Fajitas.
👉4. Colheita Seleccionada 2016 Herdade Sao Miguel Tinto Alentejo, Portugal – Rich and round, this dense blend is dominated by concentrated black fruit and cocoa powder. While the finish remains ripe, high-toned prickles of acidity keep the palate alive. Perfectly paired with beef or hearty pasta dishes.
👉5. Rothenberg St Laurent 2012, Klumpp, Baden, Germany – The St. Laurent was like all reds of Klumpps and is expanded in wooden barrels. The wine shows a very nice nose with aromas of plums, cherries, blueberries, smoked meat, mocha, licorice, tobacco, cloves, pepper and roses. Fleshy on the palate, juicy, dense fruit, spicy, very velvety, fine oak, very elegant, multi-layered and long-lasting. Perfectly paired with red meat and a hearty cheese board.
🍷Perfect reds, to see you through January!
